About the Academy – Alshech Academy

Welcome to the Alshech Academy of Sacred Jewish Wisdom

Join us as we dive into the depths of the wisdom of Torah through the teachings of our Sages.

The Alshech Academy is a Torah-Learning Community based in the Ancient Alshech Synagogue in the Holy City of Tzfat.

The Academy offers a diverse schedule of English-Language Torah Classes from world-class Rabbis and Teachers, sharing the Wisdom of Our Sages with students around the world.

The Alshech Academy was established in 2023, as a means to bring alive the Torah of the Holy Alshech to the world, from its ancient 16th century Beit Hamidrash in Tzfat, to a new breed of Ba’alei Teshuvah; the Anglo community in Israel and abroad.

The Academy is aimed at the English speaking audience who are perhaps too mature to attend a Yeshiva and not yet ready to join a Kollel. Our teachings are accessible in 3 ways:

In person from the Alshech Shul
On Zoom live
By downloading it at your convenience.

Wherever you are in the world, whatever your background, if you speak English and would like to tap into our broad based Sacred Jewish Wisdom in a contemporary and engaging format, then the Alshech Academy is your dream ticket.

The Holy Alshech

Rabbi Moshe Alshech was the head of the rabbinical council in Tzfat in th 1500s. At the time when the Ari Hakadosh and Rabbeinu Yoseph Kiro made Tzfat the center of the Jewish Halachic and Kabalistic world. The Alshech’s commentary (Drush) on the Torah was described as one of the 70 accepted explanations of the Torah by the Ari Hakadosh. His classes were attended by all the giants of Tzfat.

The Alshech’s Shul was used by his congregation of Turkish Immigrants and Ba’alei Teshuvah (Converso’s) from Spain.
